The Man Flew Freely, while we Witnessed Our Death.

The public execution is a grotesque spectacle of human cruelty, a display of the darkest corners of our collective psyche. It is a macabre theater of death, where we show our incuriosity, our neglect, and our lack of pragmatism. We are the audience, staring blankly at the horror unfolding before us, numb to the screams of the condemned.

But in this theater of death, the one who is dying is often more alive than those who watch. They face their fate with a courage that we cannot comprehend, a resilience that we cannot match. They are more human than we are, for they face death with dignity and grace while we watch from a safe distance.

The state’s power to execute is a violation of individual liberty and a betrayal of the social contract and yet, We just share the news on our social media, hoping to ease our conscience with a simple click. But we are fooling ourselves. We are as complicit in their deaths as those who pull the lever or push the button. We are the ones who allow this horror to continue, who enable the inhumane act of public execution to persist.

We bring our children to watch, to witness the worst of humanity. And in doing so, we scar them for life, traumatizing them with images that they cannot unsee. We teach them that violence is acceptable, that death is entertainment, that human life is disposable.

For in the end, it is not the ones who die who are the monsters, but those who watch and do nothing.”
